Hotel Crocodile Presents: Lobby Sessions, Track 14: Forty Feet Tall

TICKETS

Lobby Sessions is an up close & personal music series produced by Hotel Crocodile, featuring artists you already love & others you’ve yet to discover.

Forty Feet Tall: Forty Feet Tall has cemented their place in the scene as one of the PNW’s most exciting acts. With a steady release of singles paving the way for an LP this coming Spring, produced by Cameron Spies (Spoon Benders, Blackwater Holylight, The Shivas), they showcase a wide range of post-punk sounds that are both volatile and intimate. But the biggest buzz around the band is their live shows. Whether they’re opening for Shame, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Wine Lips, or headlining themselves, the four members leave every single thing out on stage with gigs routinely ending in incendiary showstoppers that find the lead singer tangled up in mic cords or diving into the crowd.

Blossoming within their small Seattle apartment during the 2020 lockdown, The Kerrys originated as a sanctuary of expression for José and Mauricio. From their song-a-day sessions emerged a treasure trove of demos, shared among friends, sparking the transformation into a seven-piece ensemble. The dynamic expanded with the addition of Sebastian and Aiden, propelling the release of their initial singles. Bolstered by the success of these tracks, Bryce, Owen, and Rylan joined the ranks, broadening their sonic palette

Bio for Bloqueador Solar:
Bloqueador Solar is the solo project from Ulises Mariscal of Seattle art-punk group, Tres Leches. Bloqueador Solar pushes the experimental concept you’ve come to know from Tres Leches a bit further, taking inspiration from Mariscal's time as an artist growing up in Mexico City. Influences range from Port to Cafe Tacuva to Brian Eno & Animal Collective. Mariscal seamlessly blends pop with experimental themes, making Bloqueador Solar sounds stick with you long after the set has ended.

Bio for Nil Elses:
Nil Elses presents a unique style that fuses Electronic, Ambient, Post Rock, and Dance. His musical journey began with two captivating singles, notably "Parallel," a track that encapsulates his diverse influences and serves as a prelude to the innovative style Nil proposes. The follow-up, "Crystalline," immersed listeners in a Deep Melodic House atmosphere, showcasing another facet of his versatility. In 2023, his project solidified with the release of his debut EP "Quiet Invocations," a work that took a year and a half of dedication and was created between Seattle and Santiago, Chile, under the LeRockPsicophonique label. This EP, composed of six tracks, is a transcontinental sonic dialogue that invites a deep immersion into the textural electronic music that defines Nil.

Bio for Maiclear:
I'm a Chilean, lesbian, creative technologist and multimedia artist. My passion lies in finding and creating new interactive
audiovisual experiences, bringing together my love to surprise and actively involve the audience. In this opportunity I will be doing visuals for the amazing musician and artist Nil Elses.

Muning has been producing electronic music and spinning records for over 15 years mixing different styles of hazy electronica, melancholic house and downtempo. Having started the record label, Night Young, he released the debut LP titled "Orden" and later the follow up EP "Cuerpo B", which displays Muning's varied and complex production styles.

Global Groove and A Night of Latin Music & Art Present: Dreckig (PDX) w/DJ Rizoma

About Dreckig:

Growing up in México and Germany, Papi Fimbres and

Shana Lindbeck’s destiny led them to meet in Portland, OR.

Wanting to honor their heritages in a new and collaborative way, they

set out to form DRECKIG, which means dirty in German. Both deeply

influenced by Cumbia’s melodious rhythms and

German electronic compositions, they have created their own unique

sound within that realm. Using all vintage drum machines and

synthesizers, these elements are combined & envisioned in the

studio, then brought to the stage in a mystical, dance club frenzy.

About DJ Rizoma:

Rizoma, the visionary founder of Global Groove (Seattle), is a Chilean vinyl DJ and dedicated music promoter. With an unwavering passion that transcends borders and genres, Rizoma celebrates the rich rhythms of Latin America, cultivating a local scene in Seattle that embraces global music and honors diasporas. Description:

Come celebrate the preemptive release of Thavoron’s self-titled, and third studio album, ’Thavoron’ on September 10th, followed by an acoustic live set of the brand new songs. The album is out on September 13th, on Trailing Twelve Records.

About the artist:
Thavoron (Tav-er-on) is a Cambodian-American and trans (she/her) artist based in Seattle, Washington. Layering angelic vocals and intimate lyricism over heart-breaking sonic progressions, Thavoron pulls inspiration from contemporaries such as Frank Ocean, Faye Webster, and Bon Iver.

Growing up as a Cambodian-American and not feeling represented in the music industry, Thavoron hopes to help pave the way for Southeast/Asian American and queer artists alike looking for a sense of creative community:

“..being surrounded by people I couldn’t fully relate to resorted to me locking myself up in my bedroom to just write to try and make sense of all my differences as a person.”

With coverage including Under The Radar, Celebmix, V13, METAL, Ones To Watch, LUNA, Seattle Times, Unclear, and Before The Data, Thavoron’s music has been described as deeply reflective, vulnerable, and increasingly rare. Tackling themes like cultural identity, grief, and strained relationships, Thavoron crafts hauntingly melancholy songs that leave a lasting impression.

OCEAN // SONGS is a live music-film experience, showcasing the premiere of two film works: the first, a short film by Nada Rosa, documenting a family trip to Santo Domingo in 2021. Her first film in 10 years, it will be the first-ever screening of the film, accompanied by a live score. The second music/film experience will be the music video premiere of “Lullaby” by Miami-based artist, April Nicole. Delusion Bay (Miami) is blessing Seattle for the first time as well, bringing us on a musical journey that blends ambient, indie pop, and Caribbean folklore influences.

The event is sure to activate all senses, including taste, with delicious charcuterie and snacks provided by Brandi. We hope you will accept our invitation to join this beautiful, collective experience, sharing food, films, music, and conversation.

NADA ROSA
Nada Rosa is the moniker of musician and filmmaker Brandi Diaz. She will be debuting her latest film work, OCEAN // SONGS, an experimental visual essay that documents tender, poignant moments of her family during a trip to Santo Domingo in December 2021. The film will be accompanied by an improvised live score, by Nada Rosa, accompanied by Josh Pehrson on percussion.

APRIL NICOLE
Miami-based April Nicole is a triple threat musician, photographer and filmmaker, casting dreamy spells of looping soundscapes and lush vocal harmonies with her electro-forward sound. DELUSION BAY
The brainchild of Venezuelan artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer César Rodríguez offers

Nothing can substitute the experience of a live J. Graves show. With comparisons to Sleater-Kinney, Karen O, and Siouxsie And The Banshees, catching a J. Graves show became a goal for music denizens of the Northwest. Along her trajectory Graves annealed other talent with her drive and ideals. Kelly Cifton, perhaps the best bassist (and certainly the most exciting to watch), and the unassuming Aaron MacDonald, who would be a watchmaker --for his distinct timing and style, were he not a drummer.

You must be in front of the liquid rhythm section and pounding chords of the band to feel the blast. In performance Graves eyes roll furiously and her jawline sets as she contacts the emotion that produced her songs. She contorts herself around a fender slimline telecaster, and, in fits and starts, springs forth with contagious, inspiring performances.

J. Graves: J. Graves is passionate dance-punk. Tense relationship rock, sanguine lyricism, guitar music, chord changes that sound like secret longing, a rhythm section that thuds, skitters, and melts over the determined voice of Jessa Graves. The heat of the cataclysm gives off a vapor known to galvanize meatspace into writhing, dancing heaps, creating rabid, loyal fans. Against all odds, J. Graves is back with a timely, haunting and reimagined single, LEAP YEAR II a strong return following their crushing new LP Fortress of Fun, a first of its kind, choose your own adventure record.

Beautiful Freaks: Seattle’s Beautiful Freaks represents punk at yet another generational shift. It’s not safety pins or green hair, and it’s not thick necks or masculine posturing. Instead, it’s defiantly genderqueer and untethered to any one style: glam rock flamboyancy, hardcore punk, regional sludgy grunge, metal’s intensity, and the melodic sensibility of jazz all find their way into the mix.

Hotel Crocodile Presents: Lobby Sessions, Track 6: Reader

BUY TICKETS HERE

Lobby Sessions is an up close & personal music series produced by Hotel Crocodile, featuring artists you already love & others you’ve yet to discover.

Reader: In a time of facsimiles, replicas, and false tributes, along comes Reader — a bombastic, fearlessly unusual rock quartet from Seattle, WA. Practically speaking, this means stunning and precise vocal harmonies over shattering angular guitars, unconventional time signatures, and a driving rhythm section. Less practically speaking, the band’s debut record Engrams is a journey — a dynamic and unpredictable experience that challenges the listener in all the best ways. Attempting to neatly categorize Reader's sound is a fool’s errand. No clean “recommended if you like” comparisons can be made. The band could best be described as an experimental amalgamation of melodic and layered harmonies over aggressive and mathy guitar-driven rock. Think Alice In Chains meets the late-60’s vocal stylings of groups like CSNY and Simon and Garfunkel. An original juxtaposition of forces, authentic and uncompromised in any direction.

Lane Lines

Like drifting back into the perfect dream you've been aching for, Lane Lines provides the soothing pop-tinged sounds your ears seek out in the darkest of nights. A lucid dreamer themselves, the Seattle-via-Phoenix artist guides their audience on a choose-your-own-adventure, with lyrics of trauma, loss, love and destigmatizing mental health struggles.

Lane Lines was dreamed into existence by Mandi L. Kimes by connecting pieces from the unconscious realm to the waking, pulling threads from Frou Frou, The Japanese House and Fleet Foxes to weave together the coziest, comforting sound of moody vocal harmonies and hazy pop - accurately titled Sweatercore.

The mission behind each stress-relieving song is clear on Lane Lines’ upcoming sophomore album, Lucid Dreaming, due out this summer. The record dives headfirst into the dark, and explores the visions Kimes themself experienced during the difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Otherworldly visits from their late grandfather are interspersed among tributes to those in the waking world — the humans who inspire us to get out of bed daily.

A child of the 90s and early 2000s, Kimes found the only music to tackle subjects of mental health, sobriety, and anxiety head on was the emo scene. Lane Lines is here to bring that message to an accessible, pop-focused audience. Resonating with features on 93.3 Alt AZ and KEXP, and named one of the best new Phoenix artists of 2020, Lane Lines doesn't shy away from spotlighting society-defined "taboo topics" in their music.

"When we realize we're not alone, we finally find validation," says Kimes. "I want folks to know they're heard in their own individual struggles.

JWords and maassai both grew up listening to a variety of genres and later using the sounds of their youth to expand on the potential and style of their own music. It wasn’t until the two met while playing a show together in 2017 where they’d quickly become friends. JWords and maassai would come to know each other’s respective styles in production and rhyme while developing on their own projects and later build on a mutual desire to bridge the gap between hip hop and electronic music.

CIUDAD DE TAR is an electronic duo from Santiago, Chile that blends post-rock with electronica, creating interesting songs with layers of emotion. Marco Avilez established this project in 2019, with a debut EP titled 'ALMA,' released in 2020. Today, alongside José Tomás Molina, they form an electronic duo crafting purely instrumental concepts rooted in delicate and hypnotic textural layers of guitars, synthesizers, clarinet, loops, and drum machines. With an audiovisual approach that has garnered nominations for their experimental music videos, the duo seamlessly transitions between ambient, electronic, and post-rock, offering an intimate and atmospheric experience. Together, they have released new singles that will be part of the upcoming album, set to be released through the LeRockPsicophonique label. Ciudad de Tar has taken part in significant music festivals in Santiago, such as LEROCKFEST and FERAL. Moreover, the band has headlined Ciclo Modular in both Santiago and Seattle.

With a defiant and forceful spirit, Linda From Work’s sophomore album “The Night Is Short” delivers an emotional garage rock spectrum of bold vocal melodies punctuated with driving guitars and an energetic backbeat. Steeped in feelings of righteous anger, inescapable anxiety, and deep longing, “The Night Is Short” is a cathartic display of the moments long after the sun sets. Martin Douglas of KEXP writes “‘Jealous” is easily one of the best rock songs to come out of Seattle this year, and frontwoman Hillary Tusick remains virtually unchallenged as one of the city’s best rock singers.”
